Paris – NY – Popcon – Shrine – Murmur

I had a very eventful weekend. I hopped on a flight to Paris on Wednesday afternoon to spin at Cabaret. I don’t usually travel that far to do one-off gigs, but I made an exception in this case. At least I got to upgrade to business class with my frequent flyer miles on the way there. 7 hours later, I was in Paris. I figured since I was only staying for 1 night, I might as well keep my body on East Coast USA time. So after sleeping a full nights worth, I woke up around 6PM, ready for my day. The gig itself was pretty cool. I did have a few people come up to me to make requests in French, which I obviously didn’t understand. Come to think of it, from now on, whenever I harrassed with requests, I’ll just pretend I don’t understand the language! So what if it’s English? Shouts to John, the promoter, for the dinner with him and his Zoolander-looking 6 ft+ crew of models and fashionistas.

10AM the next day, I was on a plane to New York. I spent the majority of the 7 and a half hour ride asleep. Got to NY, then was off to rehearsal for my last minute performance at Popcon with Vita Chambers. Popcon is a musical festival held at the Nassau Colliseum geared toward teens and younger. Vita Chambers is a 16 year old artist signed to Universal and she just might be the next big thing. Rehearsed the set with her and it was off to Long Island to spin at Savannah.

Savannah is by far the best Friday night party in Long Island, and arguably New York (3 years running and packed). Great time there. This was another stop on the Ultra Dance 11 Tour, and it was sponsored by Fuze, who will hopefully be sending me some cases! Shouts to Sizzahands and the Moodswing family in the building.

The next morning, I headed to Popcon. Got a short soundcheck, and went on third. The main headliner was Justin Bieber, to give you an idea of the crowd. My ears were definitely in pain everytime the teens and tweens screamed lol. I did a short opening warm up set to hype up the crowd, then intro’ed Vita Chambers. Then dropped the beats for her 2 tracks “Like Boom” and “Young Money”, along with the drummer. Watch out for this girl!

After that, it was a road trip to Shrine. On the way, we stopped at Louis’ Lunch which is apparently the birthplace of the hamburger. If you ask for ketchup or mustard, they’ll yell at you. And they serve the burger on white toast with cheese, onions, and a tomato. It was pretty good, but I’m still a fan of Five Guys and Fuddruckers.

Shrine was packed early. I walked in at 10:30PM and had to push my way through to the booth, it was so busy. Rocked out with my jock out till close. Shouts to Randy and all the fam at Shrine!

Coming up Monday, I’ll be back at Murmur.  Industry night is always a lot of fun.  See you there!
